I feel
like fate has brought us together again. I also believe that one day, so long
ago, just wasn't the right time for us. But today is.”
GOOD Morning Drivelholics!!
I hope all
is well with you and family.
First off,
my knee seems to be coming along great, very little pain. So that is good.
Let me get
this off my chest right up front. I HATE the “Ted” socks I am forced to wear
after my knee surgery. Ted, for those who don't know, are compression socks.
They are either knee length or thigh length. Having had knee surgery, I am
equipped with the thigh length. May not be such a big deal for the gals out
there that are accustomed to wearing panty hose but for us guys, especially me,
they are uncomfortable as all get out. About the only pain I have is from these
socks. Oh, and try to keep them stretched all the way up – no way. With every
little movement down they go. They roll up or down like a coiled spring. As I
understand, these are kept on until your follow-up appointment with the surgeon
usually 7 days later. Mine – 10 days. Three additional days of agony.
I have my
second therapy session today. They equip you with the stockings for BOTH legs;
the surgical one and the good one. I must put the sock on for my therapy on the
good leg. It has not been worn too much. I executed a cost/benefit analysis and
it showed I could take it off the good leg. That is just between you and me.
Lets keep this on the down low – okay?
Following
up with the sad state of our TV commercials, I bring the following to your
attention. What is that you say? You didn't know we even had a discussion about
TV commercials so how can we have a followup? Good question. I will have my
“peeps” research that and get back to you. Anyway, sorry folks for the diversion
there. As I was saying, here are two examples of TV commercials that in my
humble opinion don't belong on TV.
The
first is for Balmex Adult Care Rash Cream 12 oz. $15.38.
Seems a bit pricey but my point is do I need to have
a commercial for “Adult Care Rash Cream”? Sure we have things like “Destin” for
baby diaper rash and that is fine and a very good product. I guess I didn't
realize there was a huge need for an Adult diaper rash cream.
It
touts something named “Activ GuardTM” which “Neutralizes
Irritants”. It has been “Dermatologist Tested”
and “Works in One Use” and of course is
“Odor-Free”. Maybe I have been extremely fortunate so
far or was just to stupid to realize I needed such a product. Perhaps this
product makes more sense when we look at the next product that should not have
been made for TV.
This
is made by Depends. You have probably heard of these people. As we age, we do
subcomb to some urinary track issues. It has a tag line of
“Depend – Guard Your Manhood with guards &
shields for men.” It goes on “So you got some leaks?
No big deal. Millions of guys deal with the same thing”. Tony Siragusa is here
to help you learn how to Guard Your Manhood. Step one: reclaim your bathroom.
After that, get to know Guards and Shields for Men. I mean, isn't this just
too much information. I can't even imagine trying to explain this a young child
watching TV. Print advertising – okay; direct mail – OK; I just feel squeamish
watching it on TV. Part of me asks “Do I need that?” Another part refusing to
acknowledge that I am 67, dismisses it as something for “old” people. Anyway,
that is my two cents worth on TV commercials for today.
Thank God for making mothers. Huh? Yes, I am
changing the subject. Sure we all know just how special moms are in our lives
but I was reminded of this just yesterday. I have been off and on researching my
family tree. Well, I am back on right now. I had always been told I was a shirt
tail relative of one of my classmates. Being ever forward looking and planning
for the future, I did not inquire of my mother about this fact before she
passed. Let's get another knock in the forehead for being such a nitwit. I
emailed my classmate on the off chance she would know. She didn't but asked, you
guessed it, her MOM. And, yes, her MOM knew the relationship.
Mom's know everything you know. How wonderful a feeling
it was to make that link in our families and many thanks to my
classmate and her mom. That has caused me to rue the fact that I didn't
inquire about my family history at a younger age when memories were fresher and
before so many had left us. Wish now that someone would have sat me down, slap
me in the side of the head, and said “Okay boy here is everything about our
family, so listen up. Take notes if need be.” Retired and 67 years old has shown
me the need for this but most everyone is gone. How sad. Opportunity
lost.
I am
getting a little antsy. I have been essentially laying around for 2 months while
it was determined I needed this knee scoped. All that time I didn't go to the
gym. I imagine my gym rat friends have probably forgotten what I look like so I
am in the process of designing a logo for a t-shirt that will catch their eye
maybe. Here is what I have so far. Now you know my blog as “Trashy Tuesday” but
its real title is “Drivel Over Coffee” with a tag line of “Life As Seen Through
Dog-Licked Glasses”. Trashy Tuesday just happens to be one of the blogs under
that umbrella. Take a look and see what you think. Yea or nay?
Should we
meet again - TA!
