The reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. Actually, they are downright false. I am bright-eyed and bushy tailed. The other half, my current wife, is not so upbeat. She is getting around better and she is screaming at me less so I think she is feeling better. Physical therapy has begun on her back and knees. The PT along with the medications seems to be helping a bit. She walks with a cane more for support in case a knee gives out than anything else.
I was watching a program on TV the other day about the history of a variety of everyday items. I was only paying half attention until I heard them talking about mouth wash. I had never thought about mouth wash origins before. I guess it was not something high on my radar. It seems the good ole Romans were one of the first people to use a mouth wash concoction. Actually it wasn't really much of a concoction, it was human urine. They would take a mouthful, swirl it around, gargle and spit it out. Ugh!!! No thanks. It wasn't just any old urine either. The Romans had found that the Portuguese human urine was the best around and imported it to Italy. Good Grief. I thought I had best check the ingredient label on my mouth wash because we have had it for a while. I didn't see anything about urine but there was some chemical terms that I haven't looked up yet. No gargling for this guy.
I don't know if you had noticed but I didn't get my normal Tuesday blog out this week. Shoot, I have been busy lately. What with Christmas coming and shopping to be done, the current wife on IR (injured reserve), church newsletter week, PowerPoint presentations for upcoming church services, doctor appointment and on and on. I just couldn't get it worked in. Trash day was uneventful except again I noticed that my neighbors are slow getting their containers to the curb. Since it turned cold, they have not been getting stuff like they used to when it was warm.
Word of the Week - Adytum
We went to a Christmas party last week and for the first time in a long time, I consumed entirely too much beverage. Being a responsible adult, I was determined to be careful getting home. For the first time in my life I did something I've never done before - I took a bus home. I arrived back home safely and without incident which was a real surprise, since I had never driven a bus before and have no idea where I got this one.
I made a commitment a while back to the church to get their electronic equipment, audio/visual systems and such fixed up and organized. Yes, this was one of those times when my mouth volunteered my services before my mind had a chance to think about it. We have our projection system functioning pretty well although we still have some enhancements to make and some sound expansions on the horizon. I am finally getting to a position where I am going to off load the Sunday service presentations to some of our younger members. Boy, I can't wait to share the duties. Next, I need to get a new newsletter editor so I can resign from that duty after more years than I can remember. I need to free up some time so I can write my memoirs. Yeah, right!
We have the fitness center closed for the holidays. I wanted the staff to enjoy the end of the year plus, I wanted some time to get some things done. Sue's unexpected difficulties have not really freed me up to much yet but I now have time to clean the place up. We needed a really good cleaning after the sewer backup from the French Doggie Bidet. We cleaned once but I want to do a real thorough one now. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a very nice fruit basket from Yvette. Remember, Yvette with the big blue eyes? She is the sales rep for the French Doggie Bidet company. That was really thoughtful of her. I have decided to install an obstacle course inside plus some agility exercise equipment. Should be fun. I have high hopes for both Kinnick and Max but I think Barney feels he is above such nonsense so I don't expect too much from Barney. Barney is seven years old now and is not the athletic type. He really loves the solar tanning bed though.
Jenny, the elder, has a birthday coming up. Yep, just seems like we did this not too long ago. Jenny, bless her heart doesn't like to make a big fuss about her birthday at least with her mom and dad. We typically with treat her to a nice supper somewhere and have a good time with her sister, Debby the younger elder. Always have a good time. I don't know if a gift is in order or not since she has about everything in the world. Shoot, she even has a shark fin antenna on her new Jeep. Helped her install that the other day. I am jealous, actually. I don't have a shark fin antenna plus I don't have a neat vehicle to put it on either. We may go to an Italian place in town. The girls are lovers of all sorts of pasta dishes and they will enjoy that. Me, well, let's just say that spaghetti with meat sauce and garlic bread is about as adventurous as I get.
Word of the Week - Adytum. Usually, when I write my blog I am in my man cave. It is my Adytum. Admittance is restricted to me and the grand dogs. Yes, the definition is a sacred place that the public is forbidden to enter; an inner shrine.
Our friend J and Fred are always looking forward to the blog. If it doesn't arrive on Tuesday, I will get an inquiry wondering where the heck it is at. It is a little depressing though as she is the only one who asks about it. So J and Fred, this one is for you. I had the opportunity to meet her Fred the other day. Fred is a Labrador rescue and is really a nice dog. He was pretty abused but J has nurtured him and developed him into a good Hawkeye pooch. J is a little bit Hawkeye herself you see.
The French Roast is gone for today. Fortunately it didn't taste like mouth wash or Portuguese urine. Wow, I just can't imagine that. Oh, did you know the tin can was invented about 60 or 70 years before the can opener? Wouldn't you think they would invent a way to get into a can before they invented the thing? Not much good if you can't get the canned stuff out of it. The cans were originally sealed with lead but when people started dying from lead poisoning it was decided that another sealing material was needed. I hope you get the shopping done because the days are beginning to run out on you. Have a great one, TA!
