Could ya'all hang on a minute. I have to get the weekly waste out to the curb. I have 15 minutes so I have to get going.
Thanks for waiting. I am back. Sorry to report that I have yet to get my GARBY. Kind of bummed. I have seen them springing to the curb around town. Only thing I can say is that they lend to a uniform look at the curb on trash day. Somebody must think that is important. Hardware and lumber yards are reporting a drastic drop in trash can sales. Do you think? That market in Cedar Rapids is going the way of the buggy whip. One of the peeps shoot this video of the GARBY delivery. It was filmed rather covertly, didn't want to awaken the wrath of the Garbage Gestapo, if you know what I mean.
It should be noted that included with the GARBY is a booklet which explains usage of the GARBY plus it re-enforces the proper usage of its siblings - the YARDY and the CURBY. How thoughtful!
I took several photos to visually show the somewhat "cramped" shower quarters during our sabbatical to the Synod School. I will include those in the next blog perhaps. We have returned to everyday life for the most part. Want to give a BIG shout out to EM our neighbor who watched over the homestead during our absence, picked up the mail and collected the daily newspaper. EM thank you for your help. Will gladly return the favor when needed.
I can't remember if I have mentioned this or not so I will do it again. A volunteer group called "Cedar Rapids AniMeals" is up and running here. This great group is a volunteer based nonprofit organization which provides food and spay/neuter assistance for pets of the elderly, disabled and families in need. This helps them keep their companion, which greatly improves the quality of life for both. As with most nonprofits, help in the forms of volunteers, pet food donations and or money contributions are always needed. They have a website where you can get details. It is: www.cranimeals.org. Check them out.
At Synod School, I had a lot of time for reflection. I pondered a lot of weighty issues such as the state of our government, our increasing weather extremes and such. In a younger life, I would say I was contemplating my navel but no more. You have to be able to find it in order to contemplate it, don't you? Anyway, someone sent me this list of things about growing older, so I thought I would share.
First ~Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.
Second ~ The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.
Third ~ Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me; I want people to know 'why' I look this way.
I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
Fourth ~ When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth, think of Algebra.
Fifth ~ You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.
Sixth ~ I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.
Seventh ~ One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it's such a nice change from being

young.
Eighth ~ One must wait until evening to see how splendid the day has been.
Ninth ~ Being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.
Tenth ~ Long ago, when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks, it was called witchcraft.

Today it's called golf.
And, finally ~ If you don't learn to laugh at trouble, you won't have anything to laugh at when you're old.

I might add, "It is a good day when you don't see your name in the obituaries!"
The last drop of French Roast has tickled my palette. That means it is time to let you go onto more productive pursuit this day. I trust it will be a good day for you and please, stay cool and hydrate. Someone said, perhaps Will Rogers, "Don't squat with your spurs on!" If you are still in a contemplative mood, ponder that. Just sayin'. TA!
