Trashy Tuesday

GOOD MORNING AMERICA!!!

It is again the ole Trashy Tuesday on Orchard Drive.   I get such a thrill out of this day.  Our trash, recyclables, and yard waste are on the curb as proud as can be just waiting for the opportunity to spill their collective guts.  I have opined in previous issues about the newest addition to our receptacle line-up - the Garby.  My friends at the Cedar Rapids Gazette had an article in last Sunday's paper with the photo below.  For the first time, we have all three of our solid waste agency provided containers on display.  On the left, sporting a blue torso with a black fedora is our CURBY.   This sucker is used for our recyclables.  On the right in a green torso and black cap is the YARDY.  Yard waste and wood products are put in this container.  Some of you may remember that I had an incident of sorts with this unit.  It basically attacked me, jammed a stick in my face and bent my glasses all to thunder.  Last, but certainly not the least, is the newest baby - the GARBY.  All of your household trash not belonging in one of the other containers goes in here.  Sporting a reserved gray body with a black bonnet, this 40 gal. "wonder" will show up in July.  Just can't wait for this addition and the ensuing list of do's and don'ts.

Busy day today.  I hauled my current wife to a doctor's appointment this morning early.  She apparently is fine.  She can continue participating in all of her recreational pursuits - silver sneakers gym class, mafia wars, cafe world, and a veritable plethora of equally intriguing recreational pursuits.  Next we have had to clear out the back bedroom, the computer room and living room window areas.  It seems that our NEW Window World windows will be installed today in the front of the house.  Keep our fingers crossed these guys are better than I am at handy work.  I will count the number of trips they make to get more supplies.  My average is 3 trips.  Hope they can beat that.  This has given us the opportunity to clean some areas that don't normally get too much attention.  Do you know how much dust can accumulate in 30 years?  Pretty good amount, I'll tell you.

We had just a really wonderful time last evening at Texas Roadhouse Steakhouse.  We got there early and actually were able to hear ourselves talk.  It wasn't too long however that the crowds showed up, the music got louder and any form of communication was limited to hand & facial signals.  We are really pretty good at that.  It surprises me sometimes at just how much nonverbal communication we engage in.  Our waitress was great.  She took very good care of us all evening.  The occasion was to celebrate daughter Debby's birthday.  She is very difficult to buy for and her wish list was limited this year.   I splurged and got Debby her own return address rubber stamp.  Not just an ordinary one, no way, this puppy was self-inking, had a lid on it to keep it from drying out, and even had a post-it flag dispenser attached to the side.  Cool beans!  I printed out a photo of a Kitchen Aid stand mixer.  This was on her list.  Actually, I think she wanted the real mixer, not a printout.  She was a little bummed with only the photo.  I will have to break down and get her the real thing I guess. Probably should have done that right away.  I thought I might get away with saving a buck or two but these kids of mine are just too sharp.

Hang on a minute can you?  Apparently, the window guys are here already.  They weren't supposed to here for another 2 hours.  I guess, early is better than late.  Sue just ripped my leather tool belt out of my hands.  She said there was no way I was going to help these guys.  Okay, I guess.  Sorry for the interruption.  Okay, where was I?

Oh yes, steakhouse.   All went well other than the present.  The food was good and I left totally stuffed.  I made a slight mistake though.  For lunch, I finished up a pot of chili we had made the day before.  It was really good.  Problem is that the chili stays with you for a while in both solid AND gaseous form.  I had a certain degree of discomfort all afternoon and evening but I managed to not show it.  No one was the wiser but I should have known better.

Word of the Week:  Feckless. "The kids were feckless during spring break."

We skipped gym today.  The first time in a long time.  It was a good thing as it turns out.  We would have missed the windows guys.  Sue didn't feel comfortable skipping but our day is just too full so something has to give you know.  Garbage truck just came by and Sue went right out to make certain they stopped and picked up the stuff.  It also gave Sue the opportunity to "Glad Hand" a little with the guys on the truck.  You just never know when that may be helpful.

I have forced Sue into changing our Internet ISP and email service.  This has been bubbling along for a couple of years.  Cedar Rapids has two cable companies, IMON and Mediacom.   Mediacom had all of our business at one time - Internet, cable TV and phone service.  About 10 years ago, we switched the phone and cable TV to IMON since it was a local start up company.  We left the Internet and email with Mediacom primarily to avoid the hassle of changing email addresses.  I researched, discussed, cussed and stewed over making this change for a long time.  I finally reached the end of my rope with Mediacom.  I have now vowed to sever all ties with these dudes.  On Friday the switch will be made. Sue has informed me that I have a lot to do in order to get ready for the change.  Okay, okay!!!

Well, the clock is ticking so I had better start earning my keep.  The French Roast is long gone as is the caffeine buzz.  That is usually a good sign that my blogging time is about to end.  BTW (By The Way - for ya''ll over 65) try adding this week's word to your vocabulary.  It may bring a raised eyebrow or two.  Until next time - TA!
