Does this sound familiar?
Ring, Ring
Hello, Progresso, how may I help you?
Hi, yes, May I speak to Grandpa Bailey, the tech head?
Um, Ma'am, this is Progresso Soup, he does not work here. Let me see. Yes, if you hold, I can transfer you.
Pause, Pause, music, music
Hello Grandpa Bailey here.
This is Judith, the young parishioner in the back pew of the church and part time secretary.
For the life of me I couldn't think of a reason why she would be calling me. I have been trying to post the Drivel several times a week. I know she likes to read it. Then, I had a sinking feeling that this would end up as a tech support call. She explained that the church's computer would not work and would I mind coming over for a look see. Off I go clad in workout gear and a bit sleepy-eyed. It was slightly after 8:00 am. I only had one cup of French Roast. To make a short story long, the hard disk was missing in action - at least that is what the computer thought. This is a significant problem but the young back pew parishioner seemed to the news in stride. It wasn't the first time this computer had been a problem. Today I went back to set up a new computer that mysteriously appeared overnight. I guess that is why we say our prayers. Problem solved for the most part.
I was extremely proud of our neighborhood yesterday - Trash Tuesday. I was tail-end Charlie in getting my garbage out. As I carefully positioned my garbage can in the designated spot, I took a look up and down the street. To my amazement, EVERYONE had their trash at the curb already. How cool is that? Garbage cans, recycling containers and the yard waste containers all lined up neatly along the curb. I wish I had a picture. Our solid waste agency has nothing to complain about on this street. Take that!
It is day 8 of the broken laptop saga. I have been able to send Sue, my current wife, to a variety of meetings and get togethers this week so I can get some keyboard time. I have to get her out of the house you know. Like right now I have her at a church meeting. It will be only a couple of hours so I hope I can get this written before she comes home. I am hurrying so I apologize if I am rather scattered with my thoughts or am I that way all the time?
I mentioned the other day that I got the income taxes filed electronically. Since that time, I have been making a list of what I will do with the refund. I have a 16 items on my list so far. I won't be able to do all of them if course. It is just so hard to decide what to do with the $78.33 refund. I would imagine a cruise is out of the question but could I swing a big screen TV?.
Is anyone feeling the madness? This is March you know. In Iowa, this week is girls basketball tournament time. Next week is the boys turn. Iowa is famous for having a snowstorm sometime during that basketball tournaments. We shall have to see. Apparently there will be a couple of opportunities over the next few days. Lets see what happens.
Enough of this drivel for today. Yes, Yes I know, you are glad also. BTW, just saw my first gold finch at our bird feeder. Spring is on its way folks. As I close I am reminded that Barney didn't think too much about my telling on him being at a bar. I have to watch it. I don't want to give him a reason to pee on my shoe. Fresh out of French Roast and Drivel. Have a good one. TA!
