Yep, it's Tuesday already. The weather here in the heartland is great. High temperatures today is for casted to be in the lower to mid forties. The snow is melting like crazy and everyone is glad. Amazing how the weather affects our mood. Even the trash dictatorship can't bring me down today.
Yesterday, as is my custom, I was sitting in my car in the garage, preparing to drive it out and let it warm up while waiting for my current wife, Sue, to get ready for the gym. Up my driveway ambles this black furry dog. It is obviously looking for his spot to perform a #2. This animal had a nice collar and I could see tags dangling from it. I know he is looking to do the deed because we have found his droppings from other visits. Now in Cedar Rapids, it is a law that your dog MUST be on a leash when outside. If you have a fenced yard, they can run free in the yard. Why do some people insist on disregarding the laws? These people let this animal run loose around the neighborhood all the time, letting him do his duty in whoever's yard he feels like. I JUST DON'T GET IT!
General Motors - Just heard on the news that GM is doling out bonuses to all of its employees to a tune of about 400 million dollars. Management is getting a bonus of 50% of their annual salary. The line workers are getting bonuses as well. This is the company that was bailed out with 20 - 30 BILLION dollars of OUR TAX DOLLARS. This bailout has NOT be paid back yet. How insane is this? If I was on the receiving end, it would be great but as a taxpayer I am going nuts. What has happened in our country? Just where did the wheels fall off? How did we, you and me, allow this to happen?
I have to relate an incident that occurred on Saturday. I had gone to Jenny's house to help her with a couple of projects in the morning. Sue, you may remember as my current wife, brought us lunch. That was great. About 2 o'clock we left. I went to my house and Sue had a stop at Debby's house before coming home. I arrived home and was puttering around when the phone rang. "Hello, this is Doyce", I said. "Hi, it is me (Sue). I went to the store and decided to wash my car at the car wash. I used my card to pay but it didn't work, so I fooled around with it and the overhead door went up. I pulled in thinking the other door would open to let me pass through. Wrong, I pulled in, the door behind me closed and the door in front DID NOT open. I'M TRAPPED IN THE CAR WASH!!!!" she related. I suggested that she turn the car off. She indicated that before she drove in she called to report being ripped off to an answering service. The response was that they would pass the message along. Sue was apparently calm but not very happy. I volunteered to come over but we decided I wouldn't be able to do anything. I had her call the answering service again and let them know she was TRAPPED!. I said if that didn't spur them into action, threaten to call 911. She hung up. Ten minutes pass, fifteen minutes, twenty minutes go by. I'm getting nervous so I call her. NO ANSWER. How can that be? I hang up, wait then try again. No answer so I left a message. I am becoming concerned, she should be able to answer the phone at least. I'm thinking carbon monoxide poisoning, hypothermia or what ever. As I'm getting ready to go there, she calls to let me know that she is free. Whew, safe and sound. A man came, opened the doors, chastised her for not using the red emergency button hidden somewhere in the wash bay and gave her a free car wash. One thing, he failed to mention anything about cancelling the credit card transaction. I guess it wasn't really free after all. We probably will not be going back there again.
I trust everyone had a great Valentines Day. It was not a big deal here. Sue presented me with some chocolates and a humorous card. It was payback for the off-color card and cookie I gave her for our anniversary. That is the way it goes around here.
I can't remember if I mentioned that I received a Body Bugg from my children. If you are unfamiliar with a Body Bugg, it is a device that is worn on your arm. It records your activity throughout the day and night which translates into the amount of calories burned and records it on a website. Pretty cool device. I also get a free session with a professional that trains me how to use it and all of its features. I will be able to measure my workouts now. Doesn't everyone want to know this? Weight loss is just mathematics. Burn more calories than consumed. That equals weight loss. I'm anxious to really get going with this device so I can definitively measure the success of my workouts.
The French Roast buzz is wearing off so I had better sign-off. Time to get ready for the gym anyway. The Body Bugg is securely attached. We will see what the workout produces. Have a great day and enjoy the weather. TA!
