Calling Tech Support

Here we go again I'm afraid.  My current wife and I each have Blackberry smartphones.  Why we have these is really unknown to me.   I can live without it.  I do find the Instant Messaging handy and the reminder system.  Access to the Internet is also neat but not necessary.  This is the second smartphone that Sue has had.  I recently have undertaken the task of moving photos from the phone to our laptop.  Actually, Sue called me.  No, not on the phone, she yelled at me to get these photos off of her phone.  It seems she can not add any more -out of memory.  I immediately put on my "Bailey Tech Support" hat.

Her phone is limited since it doesn't have a memory card.  I received a memory card for my phone at Christmas but Sue received a new digital camera.  Sue, like millions of people is not overly tech savvy when it comes to electronic devices.  I, on the other hand, am rather handy with electronic thingies.  That is why she keeps me around, I guess, having spent all of my working career involved with computer software, mainframe computers, desktop and laptops.  I have provided tech support to her for many years beginning when I introduced her to email - a big mistake on my part.  I have regretted this ever since.  But I didn't learn my lesson.  I also introduced her to Facebook, Mafia Wars, Cafe World and such.  That is another story for another time.

Okay, not a problem.  Blackberry has a desktop manager application which performs multiple syncing functions between the phone and the computer via a USB connection.  I load the software, following the instructions provided by Blackberry exactly.  Now this is not a particularly complex function but it seems that the Blackberry folks have decided to make it equal to rocket science.  The software loaded fine.  When I start the application, it looks great.  I enter the media transfer area.  Ooooops! It states I don't have a media card installed.  Wrongo brother!  I have a card installed and formatted.  In my finest technical support mode, I begin checking, rechecking, double checking yadda, yadda to no avail.  I begin searching the Internet.  I have now spent the majority 4 days trying to get this resolved.  I have given up.  Blackberry has beaten me.  I'm crying "UNCLE".  I give up.

Daughter Debby, the younger elder (or whatever), came to the rescue.  I do have to say that Debby is a sneaky techie.  She knows more than she will fess up to.  Debby has this little gizmo (excuse the technical jargon) that you can put your memory card into and then slip it into a slot in your laptop and bingo.  I am able to transfer the photos.  Having crafted a clever work around thanks to Debby, I setup Sue's phone with MY memory card, copied and transferred her photos to her laptop.  I cleared the card and decided that she must have this card on a permanent basis to avoid future tech support calls (yells).

Sue was extremely satisfied with the results. Great News!  That was until she realized her custom wallpaper had disappeared on her phone.  I told her she would have to log another support call.  Haven't heard from her yet.  Keep your fingers crossed.  I am not going to rock the boat.

Changing gears a little, we have settled on a name for the dog gym.  We are calling it "Grandpaw Bailey's Doggy Fitness Center.  Kind of catchy I think.  We have found a young person who is willing to provide grooming services one afternoon a week.  She will give baths, trim and color nails, groom,  and massages.  The aqua center is complete.  The water is being conditioned to get the pH just right.  Solar tanning center is complete.  All of the gym equipment has been installed.  New paint and carpet has been installed and completed. It is just about ready to go.  We are just waiting for the automatic waterers to be installed.  I have been taking a course to become a certified trainer.  We are pulling together schedules, forms for recording exercise sessions and personal training materials.  In other words, we are pretty darn close.  We are planning an open house and will invite Kinnick, Barney & Max plus their parents.  I am excited.

Well, it is 56 degrees out.  I am fighting back the urge to get the lawn mower out.  It has been a nice run of warm weather.  We needed that to lighten our spirits.  Sue has nixed the lawn mower idea.  Darn!  I guess another cup of coffee would be order especially since Dr. Oz says it helps to reduce Type 2 Diabetes.  Of course he also said you should drink 2 tsp. of vinegar before each meal also.  Coffee - yes; vinegar - not to sure about.  Have a great day.  Thank you for letting my Drivel invade your space.  TA!
