Thanks for your patience. I started this last Friday, added to it on Saturday and now its Monday already. Why am I so tardy you may have wondered. It is like this, I am 64 almost 65. I am completing my second year of retirement. I have been basically doing nothing during this time other than going to the gym every day to workout. I have found that in my mind my day becomes completely filled with what you might call, worthless activities. After the gym, I must check facebook and the facebook games I participate in. Then there is lunch followed by any errands to be run. By mid-afternoon I sit down to watch TV and much on a bowl of popcorn. When I awaken from watching TV, it is usually time for supper and more evening TV watching activity. This is my full day of activity. When I take on any additional things, my tight schedule becomes overflowing. Most of you know that my grand dog, Kinnick, has been residing with us since October. Over the past couple of weeks, Kinnick has increasingly gotten more bored with my busy schedule. The past couple of days, he has wanted to play more and more. Playing with the dog is my responsibility. Therefore, more playing with the dog leaves little time for blogging. Jenny the snow bunny elder, is returning from Colorado Wednesday or Thursday and Kinnick senses that.
With my shopping coming to a close I taken time to reflect on my shopping experiences this season. I don't do a lot of shopping during the year so the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas is my time to to get out among them. I browse through all of the stores that I don't regularly frequent. I can't fathom the amount of dollars tied up in these stores. Sure makes me glad that I don't own one.
I spend a lot of time sitting at intersections with other shoppers in long lines of cars. I've started counting cars sitting at the intersection and estimating the dollar value sitting there. For example one intersection had 2 lanes of traffic going both north and south plus one lane going east and west. At the stop light when all lanes were red, I counted 63 cars. If the average value of this group of cars was $20,000, there would be $12,600,000 worth of cars sitting there. Amazing!!! Most of them had one driver and no passengers. Where does all of this money come from? It just blows my mind to think of the amount of money tied up in automobiles in a city like Cedar Rapids.
Being a people watcher by nature, I am amused by situations people create when shopping. My favorite is at the grocery store. A husband and wife with cart meander down the aisle. From the other direction comes a woman who sees her old friends which she hasn't seen for 25 years evidently. They stop half down the aisle, carts and people blocking traffic from each direction. They converse totally oblivious to the dozens of people stacked up waiting for them to move. Seriously, are they really that focused or making a statement?
I have noticed that the number of muscle bound behemoths at the gym have drastically dropped since the weather has turned cold. I would have guessed there would be more during the winter since the cold weather forces them inside. Wait, just happened to think that they may have gone into hibernation. Yes, that's it.
It is snowing again today so I will have an opportunity to test the adjustments I made to my Toro 2 stage blower. I am hoping that my third try using this machine will be successful. My image in the neighborhood is going down the dumper quickly. I need a positive to get back in good standing. Well, I am going to post this edition of the Drivel. Kinnick is after me again to play and I don't know when I will get back to it. My French Roast is gone for the day and my current wife is wanting me to make a grocery list. A guys work is just never done. Until next time --- TA!
