Hi Gang. Did you all survive the Halloween event? We did too. I was kind of disappointed, we only had 25 little tykes come to the door. At about 7:30, the lights were turned off and the doors locked. I mitigated my disappointment by over-dosing on candy and playing Candy Crush until news times. Back in the day we would have between 250 to 300 kids. The times they are a changin'.
This being a year of medical research on my part, I continued with my very first cataract surgery on Thursday. I was given the opportunity to be slightly drugged but I decided to go mano mano. The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics performed the procedure. I continue to be amazed with their approach to synchronized health care. Everyone seems to be on the same page and a procedure runs like clockwork. There were 6 to 8 people in the operating room I think. I wasn't at liberty to really look around. Going in I thought it would be really creepy seeing through the eye they were working on but that was not an issue. They focus a 1000 watt light beam on your eye therefore you can't see a thing. The doctor says it all went well. We will see today just how good it went. I have a followup appointment today. On my side of the eyeball, I have mixed reviews. Sometimes it is really clear and sharp, other times not so much.
The last time I was in Des Moines I went into Bass Pro Shop to buy a rod and reel for niece's boy's birthday. I have no clue which one to get so I just grab one and go over to the counter. A Bass Pro Shop sales associate is standing there wearing dark shades. I speak, "Excuse me, Sir. Can you tell me anything about this rod and reel?" The associate says, "Sir, I'm completely blind; but if you'll drop it on the counter, I can tell you everything from the sound it makes." Right! I don't believe him but I drop it on the counter anyway. He says, "That's a six-foot Shakespeare graphite rod with a Zebco 404 reel and 10-LB. test line. It's a good all around combination and it's on sale this week for only $20.00." I am stunned and say, "It's amazing that you can tell all that just by the sound of it dropping on the counter. I'll take it!" As I open my wallet, my credit card drops on the floor.
“Oh, that sounds like a Master Card," the sales associate says. I bent down to pick it up and accidentally fart. At first I am really embarrassed, but then I realize there is no way the blind clerk could tell it was me who tooted. Being blind, he wouldn't know that I was the only person around. The man rings up the sale and says, "That'll be $34.50 please." Whoa, I am totally confused by this so I ask, "Didn't you tell me the rod and reel was on sale for $20.00? How did you get $34.50?" The associate replies," Yes, Sir I did. The rod and reel is $20.00, but the Duck Call is $11.00 and the Catfish Bait is $3.50." Turned out to not be quite the bargain I was hoping for.
Let's all observe a moment of silence. Did you hear that? That is right, this is silence. Nice isn't it. The election returns will be in later. Surprisingly our opinions don't mean a damn now for another 2 years. I personally am fed up with the whole process and the way our government has butchered our Constitution that our ancestors fought so hard to create.
