Trashy Tuesday 5/13/2014

'The older I get, the less I care about what people think of me. Therefore the older I get, the more I enjoy life.” - Unknown

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY - Belated – Reason this sign is appropriate.

Good morning Drivel friends. Yup, Trashy Tuesday again. Any rain out your way? We have had an endless stream of little or nothing. We are constantly cloudy with showers and etc. but the total rain has not been much. The Cedar Rapids effect is taking hold as usual. The big rains go North or South it seems.

We had quite a mess last week coming from the patio. We had people all over the backyard. Some started tossing a football around, yelling and screaming. The next thing I knew, a full-fledged scrimmage had broken out. At 8:30 am, neighbors are a little grumpy ergo the halting of all such gatherings will writing the blog. I mean the phone was ringing out of its cordless stand (not off the wall). My current wife was fit to be tied when she saw the mess. Hysteria Lane lived up to its name last week. I fielded several calls from lawyers representing one party or another. Heck, I even had the bakery that I got the donuts from call and threaten legal action for besmirching their brand name. Good Grief!

I am writing today from the quiet and comfort of my recliner. I am firmly ensconced in my “comfy clothes”, listening to my '60's tunes, sipping on the freshly roasted and ground French Roast and getting inspiration from the fire in the fireplace and the birds out on the patio. I have decided that it is best that I write all alone. At least I know I won't sue myself. This is heaven.

First things first. Let's give one GIANT shout out to Franz. Franz suffered a nasty fall a couple of weeks ago. He has some scrapes and bruises but most importantly, he had some broken bones on his right hip that required surgery. My current wife and I visited him yesterday for a while. Frau Franz and their daughter joined us after a while. I think they waited until I had my way with him. No, No, No, Not THAT way. I mean, we just had a good visit and a chuckle here and there.

Franz is a long time member of our Silver Sneakers group at the gym. We talked about that video going around of the football player with a football who does a variety of stunts. One is where he “supposedly” throws the football around 70 yards and so high that he has time to run underneath it and catch it. That seems to be a stretch in my book. Franz likened it to Kay's tossing of the ball up and down in Sneakers class. Franz assures us he will be okay and his therapy is going well.

Any of you still waiting for your appointment with Arizona VA Hospital? Don't hold your breath. Can you fathom how people can be so deceitful for personal gain? I have tried to rationalize this type of behavior. I just cannot see how people can do this or any other absurd act and be able to sleep at night. Are their conscience so hardened that they have no feelings? I have been having my own little dust up here in Iowa. My local office has been giving me the appearance of not really being concerned about my condition despite repeated attempts. I must remind myself not to get too “frisky” with the doctors or I might get prescribed anti-freeze tablets or something. What do Gordon Ramsey of Hell's Kitchen fame and Donald Trump of the Apprentice fame have in common? THEY KNOW HOW TO GET RID OF INCOMPETENT STUPID PEOPLE!!!!!

I trust we all had time and opportunity to visit with our Mom's on Sunday. My mom has passed but I was with her in spirit on Sunday. She was a good person and did so very much to raise 3 bratty boys. The girls, Sue and I went to Dubuque for Sunday brunch at chef Sven's parent's home. Sven's Mom and Sven spent some time in the kitchen preparing the meal together. That was really nice for them. The meal was great as was the fellowship. Thank you very much.

Carl Hoffman (http://www.the60sofficialsite.com/) has a website with all of the '60's music you may ever want plus he has added a bunch of '60's memorabilia as well. When you get the hankering for “good” music, visit Carl's place. You won't be disappointed. Carl is a Vietnam Vet. He has compiled a list of the top tunes of Vietnam Vets. Just about all tunes would be on my favorite or next to favorite list for sure. Probably the ones I like the most are “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” by the Animals, “For What It's Worth” by The Buffalo Springfield, and “Light My Fire” by The Doors. Remember 2014 is the 50th Anniversary of the start of the war. If you know a Vietnam Vet, give them a thank you. I had a young man come up to me in the store a while back. He grab my hand, shook it, and said “Thank you for your service and welcome home.” I almost cried. It was the first time anyone had welcomed me home.

What hair color do they put on the driver's licenses of bald men?

Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale?

This coming Sunday I will be going on a trip. Yes, a trip. It will be only a day trip. A LONG day trip. Daughter Debby, the younger, has pleaded, threatened, and coerced me in joining her on a bus trip to Milwaukee and back. It begins at 5:30 am. I will take about 5 hours to get there and about that long to get back. We will be attending the 2014 Milwaukee Pug Fest. This is an annual event in Milwaukee. As its name implies, pugs from all over the US will be attending the Fest. We are representing CR/IC area. Yes, we will be clad in look-a-like T's. Approximately 10 adults will riding in a smallish type bus as I understand. Hang on.... I forgot the most important part. Accompanying the 10 adults will be at least 10 pugs. Wow!!! What a time. I do believe the pugs have their own look-a-like costumes as well. OMG! My first out of state trip in ages and it will be pug mania for at least 12 hours or so. Pictures to ensue I am sure. Say a little prayer for Lefty (yours truly).

I am running out of paper. The French Roast was gone long ago. I have been sipping on coffee grounds for the last hour. FYI – coffee grounds are not recommended for sucking on. Anyone got a stomach pump? Should we meet again, in this or any world, have a good one – TA!
