“Always
do right—this will gratify some and astonish the rest.”
Mark Twain
Can it be that Tuesday has fallen upon us again? Good morning and welcome to Drivel Over Coffee. Grab a cup of freshly ground French Roast, grab a roll (scratch that – no one brought rolls again), find a seat and greet your neighbor. I see several newbies here so let me tell you what Drivel Over Coffee is all about. This will only take a minute. This blog came together as a result of an overactive mind when I retired, boredom, love of the 60's and constantly blurred glasses thanks to licks from my three grand dogs whom I refer to rather regularly here in the blog. You see I am their designated sitter.
In the photo above you can see me and Barney, a 10 year old pug and the writer of the bunch, at the keyboard. He helps me often with the blog when my brain goes dead or he has something of interest to add. I discuss just about anything most of which is of no use to anyone.
Shopped for Ye Olde turkey the other day in a grocery I don't usually frequent. Daughter Debby, the younger, and I went on a shopping trip Saturday. We had a great time visiting stores on the other side of town. We didn't buy too much but got a few things. At one store I was trying on a hat to see if it fit when Debby said something like “Cheese” or “Please” or something. Next thing I know, my mug is spread all over Facebook. One of my finer moments I might add. My current wife, Sue, has been “urging” me to share with our non-Facebook friends. Reluctantly, here it is. Kind of curdles your milk doesn't it?
Anyway, as I was saying, I purchase our Thanksgiving Day turkey. It was not an easy task, however. This store, as it turns out, had 4 different locations for turkeys. One was by the meat counter, one was by the cheeses, the turkey breasts were intermixed with the poultry and pork products plus a forth location for something called “Boneless Turkey Breast Roast” (not sure what that is). I did finally find what I was looking for. On our way home I happened to wonder out loud what the size of the turkey breast was: A, B, C, D, etc. Daughter Debby thought that was funny and one she didn't have an answer for. I continued by thought wondering just how they are measured and why use the alphabet to denote different sizes. Wouldn't something like small, medium, large, extra - large, and voluminous be more descriptive? I filed that away in my mind for further research.
We found a great new bread place called “Great Harvest Bread. Free samples and it was all yummy. I bought a loaf of bread on the recommendation of Debby for the current wife. It wasn't until I arrived home and unpacked my purchases that I realized that my current wife has eliminated all bread from her diet. We froze it. That is the kind way of assigning it to purgatory. After a few months we will ask “What is that?” which we will, of course, have forgotten about and throw it away. It is a more artful way of wasting money than just tossing currency in the waste basket.
Do you all Tweet? No, silly not like a bird. You know the messaging application called Twitter. With my new smart phone I get tweets delivered via SMS. Some are informational, some are not relevant and some are just wrong. Like this one I got yesterday. “Typhoon Rips Through Cemetery, Hundreds Dead!” Duh! “Hey Charles, not his real name, what did you say?” You read that there is a new nutrition study being formed. The new Obesity study is looking for a larger test group.” Weren't fat enough already, huh?
You may not have realized it but I have been under the weather for the past week or so. Technically, that is not correct. We are ALL under the weather. I mean not feeling well. I have had this cough and plugged nose/sinus thing. It seems to be going around. It is one thing that delayed our potato trip a couple of weeks ago. Charles had it for a couple of weeks. Now, let's keep our fingers crossed. I think I am possibly getting over it. Don't want to get too excited but I am feeling a little better.
I hope everyone has their Thanksgiving plans made. We are in full panic mode starting today. We will be hosting one of our larger groups ever. With that is the pressure to try to make everything perfect. High level cleaning, followed by removal of unnecessary items are the tasks for the day. The menu is set. Everyone has their assignments and things to bring. Sounds pretty well on its way. Believe me, there will be a lot of yelling and sweating in this house before company arrives. Oh boy! Can't wait for them to get here. It will be a good time with family we haven't seen for a while. I trust all will travel cautiously and carefully.
With overeating high on my agenda, there is a need for the workout plan to counter balance. I have been working out sporadically since my knee surgery early this fall. I have been trying to develop a new workout strategy as well as get some mojo back. Since my doc told me to avoid the treadmill, it is tough. I think I am going to go back to Silver Sneakers for a while. Hopefully, the mo and jo will be found there. For those Silver Sneakers participants who read this, let me say I am sorry ahead of time. A new body can disrupt the class dynamics on occasion. Looking forward to seeing all of you again.
My cup is dry. French Roast for today is done. It goes down so smoothly. Once again I am closing my Drivel Over Coffee with a hole in my stomach because NO ONE BRINGS DONUTS! What am I left with to eat, oh here is some candy corn. That is great for breakfast. Yum, Yum! Don't let the grass grow under your feed. We are just living the dream in the 60's and loving it. TA!
