I have come to visit with you again. I hope all is well with you and your families. I know, I know the Drivel is late today. I'm kind of down today for some reason. Don't know why, just down. Got a good case of the blahs. Could be the weather, it is partly cloudy, 41 degrees, the leaves have almost all fallen from the trees, at least in my yard. Sure sign winter is coming and that is depressing.
I may be in a funk because our fine city workers have admitted they cannot keep up with the leaf sucking program supposedly because the leaves are falling too quickly. I guess they are a day or two behind. Well now, let's just see how can that be fixed. Surely we can fine the property owners who allow their trees to shed their leaves too quickly. Yes, that would allow them to purchase additional trucks. Problem solved!
Just a minute my current wife just popped. " What's that?" "Have I put anything in the Drivel about the church closing their hospitality center for flood volunteers?" "Uh, no I hadn't thought about that." "Okay, okay I will let everyone know. Okay?" Folks, listen up, Christ Church Presbyterian has closed their hospitality center for flood relief volunteers after 3 years. In all seriousness, it was a HUGE effort the church undertook. Over the three years since 2008, we had over 1500 volunteers reside at the church in 145+ groups from over 45 states. Many groups returned 2, 3, 4 or more times. They worked on 165 homes and businesses. This amounted to 35,749 volunteer hours worth $679, 231. Huge thanks to all of our members for their efforts in the mission. A very big success.
I got the yard pretty well raked and mowed for the final time in 2011 this week. I also had the lawn aerated twice. Yes, you heard me correctly - TWICE. My subconscious didn't feel that once was enough so had me schedule it done a second time by a different company. Good Grief! Could be a cause for my funk?
Yet, maybe I haven't gotten rested up from Saturday night. Everyone went to the Iowa Hawkeye football game except me. It was a night game. I babysat the "boys" and they got to stay all night. Yes, I opened my mouth again before I could stop it. My current wife was late arriving back home of course so we decided to have a party in my bed when it was time for bed. I have related before that I have strict rules about the sleeping arrangements. Unfortunately, Saturday night the boys were giddy from the Hawkeye victory over Northwestern that the rules went out the window. I try to beat the dogs into bed so that I can claim my space first but it didn't work this time. Barney & Max, the pugs, jumped up first, followed me around the bed, panting and licking all the way. I pulled the covers back and started to jump in but the pugs didn't let me jump in so I snaked a leg onto the mattress and then the other. My torso was perched perilously on the edge of the mattress. Slowly, I inched my way in enough so that I wouldn't fall out however, the blankets didn't follow me. I ended up with enough to cover about half of me. Kinnick mounted the bed finally. Instead of curling up in the lower right corner, he decides that tonight would be a good night to stick his rear end in my chest and then put his head over the side of the mattress. I was lying on my side at that point. The pugs were quite taken aback by this development because their space is right where Kinnick was laying. Barney made an attempt but there just wasn't enough room between Kinnick and the pillows. He gave up on that and they both settled down around my knee caps where they decided to fight over the stuffed monkey they had brought to bed. Somehow, I feel asleep only to wake up around 3:00 am freezing to death. Most of my body was exposed to the cool air. Half asleep, I decided it was time for them to go outside to do their thing. When they came back in, I ran to the bed before them, jumped in and successfully claimed a decent space fully covered. Victory at last. No not quite. Barney curled up between my legs, Max was at an arm pit and Kinnick was in his usual spot. Sleep came again until 5:00 am when Kinnick decided it was time to get up. He gets on my left side, with Barney between my legs and Max on my right side at the armpit. Yep, completely trapped under the covers. Kinnick is on his back and won't move until he gets his morning belly rub and massage for a full twenty minutes at which time he is ready for breakfast and gets out of bed to my relief. Yes, that may be a cause of my funk.
H the educator took off the other day. Heading to Thailand I have heard. H's timing could not have been worse. On the news they said that 2/3 of the country was under water. I hope H took some galoshes along. Can't wait to see the pictures.
Jenny, the elder, had us over for supper on Sunday. Before supper, we closed her pool for the season. That was kind of sad. Kinnick
The above mentioned French Roast is long gone. It is already mid-afternoon and I am just getting this thing wrapped up. Just got the blahs today. Don't know why but I have them. It would be nice if there was a shot for them. You have a great day and a better tomorrow. TA!
