G O O D M O R N I N G America!!!!
Yeah, Trash safely delivered to the curbside collection platform once again. I don't recall just how many consecutive weeks this is now but it is a lot. I have discovered when I have all three collection vehicles at the curb, I do not have enough room to space to set them 3 feet apart (the requirement). I am about to open negotiations with MacBlu to rent a couple of feet of his curbside turf. I fear this will become more acute when the snow flies.
I began thinking about day light savings time as I was transporting the Yardy, Garby and Curby to the curb this morning. Dressed in my summer trash attire of oversized t-shirt, baggy oversized shorts, flip flops, and "Grumpy Old Men" hat, I realized that it was totally dark outside at 6:50 am. That is really depressing. Why do we have this day light savings time anyway? I guess we fall back to regular time in a week or so. Personally, I can't wait.
Hey what's up with these protests around the country anyway? We need jobs right away. People have entirely too much time on their hands being laid-off and such. They are protesting about everything and nothing at the same time. Now don't get me wrong, there is a certain amount of efficiency with one large multi-focused protest as compared to the old days when we protested a single issue at a time. I kind of like this new approach. I think I can get out there and protest just because since surely there is something I don't like and needs changing. A "pet" issue for me is the euthanasia of pets instead of solving their issues. I don't remember how many times I hear "we have to humanly euthanize the dog because his hair fell out with mange and he has a broken leg. This animal will be much better off dead." Just frosts my cookies. If the pet is dead, I don't think they know one way or the other. I think this is just a cop out when they are really saying "it will cost too much to fix their problems." Another issue I will be protesting from my front yard is the cost of my French Roast coffee. Have you noticed the cost of coffee these days? Zowie! Coffee prices are rising like gas prices. These manufacturers are following big oil's pricing models it seems. On the end of the scale, are certificates of deposit. These nice, safe investments are tanking. I don't understand how banks can offer these instruments to the public with a straight face. The only sadder thing the banks offer are the interest rates on saving accounts. Good God! I have seen rates that are less the 1 percent. We need to protest the banks I think. They are sitting on a LOT of money and earning more every minute.
We had a mini celebration at Jenny's house last Sunday. We finally finished the 2011 list of projects involving good ole dad. I don't really mind after all it keeps out of the bars and off the streets. All of Cedar Rapids benefits from this. In my spare time I have been collecting dump bound items from around the house and putting them in the van. I decided this will force a trip to the dump BEFORE the next Iowa home game. Can't tailgate with a van full of trash you know, it just isn't right. I am trying my best to adhere to a philosophy of anything not used in the last 12 months needs to go to the dump. My current wife, Sue of Scottish heritage, and I often differ on the keep/toss decisions so I have to "sneak" stuff out once in a while. Shsst! You didn't hear that from me.
Word of the Week - titubant. In a sentence - Our discussions between my current wife and me about what can be discarded, recycled or donated usually result in a disturbance that leaves me titubant.
The leaves are gorgeous this year. The weather has been ideal for an explosion of fall colors. Mother Nature is displaying all of the colors in her palette this year. As pretty as the leaves are they don't last long enough. My ash tree in the front yard for instance is a weenie when it comes to cool weather. Seemingly, within a minute and a half it goes from green to yellow to on the ground. I swear it drops its leaves quicker than any tree around. The Garbage Gestapo is on top of the falling leaves plight. Last week they rolled out their "Binford 5000 Super Leaf Sucker" Trucks. These trucks are like a HUGE Dyson vacuum. This one-man truck has a long hose about 18" in diameter attached. The driver uses a joystick or something to move the hose around and suck up the leaves. Now don't think this service comes without rules. NO, No, No my friends. The Garbage Gestapo doesn't offer any service without rules. Before these trucks, residents were able to just rake the leaves out to the curb and they would come along and sweep them up. Seemed to work for everyone. Now that we have the Super Suckers, the leave can no longer be at the curb. Instead residents are required to place them on the parking next to the curb. The leaves must be in a nice windrowed pile. Good Grief!
Word of the Week - titubant. Definition - a disturbance resulting in an uncertain gait and trembling. Yessiree. That is me alright.
Just read an article from the Dog Whisper, Caesar Milan, regarding whether tug of war with your dog is good or bad. Now I listened to this twice and I still am not certain if it is good or bad. As nearly as I can tell he is telling us that it depends. I was concerned that Grandpaw's Doggie Fitness Center and Spa was going be forced to drop this popular exercise. I will leave it in as long as no one gets hurt. Debby, the younger elder and Barney's mother, brought to my attention that Barney's tummy is not getting tanned like the rest of him. Barney LOVES the solar tanning bed. We have 2 of these in the fitness center. He likes them so much I named one of them for him. I decided I would watch Barney when he used the tanning bed. Surely, he would turn over from time to time to get an even tan. Wrong! Barney, I discovered has a little problem when it comes to the tanning bed. He crawls onto the bed, dog-face down and begins his session. When the session is over Barney is in the same dog-face down position. It seems as though the poor pug falls asleep on the tanning bed. No wonder his tummy doesn't tan, it never sees the light. I promised his mother that I would personally watch him and roll him over half way through his session. I suggested that she let him get more sleep at home.
My French Roast ran out a long time ago so I better close for today. It has been fun. We should do this again don't you think? I hope you all enjoy this beautiful weather as much as I am. Until we meet again, TA!
