Yeah - Trashy Tuesday

Again I am honored that you have allowed me some of your time today.  Today I woke up at 5:03 am to a beautiful morning in Iowa.  It is a sunny morning, a slight breeze, 62 degrees.  I literally love this type of morning. Makes me want to write a blog.  Oh, I guess I am.  Unfortunately, the humidity is on the rise today and we are looking at a high of 82.

I wheeled my GARBY to the curb this morning.  The lid is slightly ajar which is a no-no.  I think I can get away with it today because the Gestapo seem to have relaxed their death grip on our solid waste a bit during the transition.  Last Thursday I installed a new mailbox and post.  Our old one was about 30 years old.  It took longer than I had estimated though.  Right, what else is new?  I was fortunate that I did not have to make any extra trips to the hardware store.  Anyway, the old mailbox has to be discarded.  No problem, into the GARBY it goes but there are two bags of solid waster in there - hence the lid that is ajar.

Missy EM, our neighbor worked on the bag hang problem that arose with the new GARBY.  Proudly, I have to announce that she has developed a true MacIvor solution - bulldog clips.  Yep, bulldog clips.  She hangs the garbage bag over the 3 sides.  On the 4th side she attaches the bag using bulldog clips.  The lid closes and the bag is securely attached.  Let's hear it for Missy EM.

Another friend, Geezer Charlie, reported on his GARBY's experience with the one man truck pickup.  He, Geezer Charlie, had put some loose materials in the bottom and covered this with a bag of solid waste.  He wheeled the GARBY to the curb and waited.  He found a secure observation spot in his living room.  Peeking through the slats in the window blinds he observed his trash being picked up by a one man truck.  Geezer reports that the guy moved the GARBY to the rear of the vehicle and proceeded to open the lid grab the bag and tossed it into the truck.  Next, to get rid of the loose materials, he grabbed the GARBY, lifted it and emptied the trash in the back of the truck.  The truck by the way, was equipped with the lift mechanism on the side of the truck used to lift the said GARBY.  I don't get it!  They have the truck, they have the lift, they have the one man, we have the GARBY, why don't they use it the way it is designed?  Prying minds want to know.  I am planning a stake out of my own to see how my driver handles it.  Report next week.

The door continues to revolve here at Grandpa Bailey's Doggie Fitness Center and Spa.  It has been so busy with the comings and goings that I have had to change my check-in/check-out system.  We have always checked the dogs in and out by hand.  We look up their account, pull the card, mark the time & date on the card.  We leave the card out so we know at a glance who is in the Center.  We all know that in case of a fire or emergency evacuation we take the cards with us.  This is critical information for the firemen to know if everyone is out.  Hope that never happens.  With the spike in business, I have issued a plastic tag that is attached to each pets collar.  When they come in, the scanner scans the barcode and records their entrance.  Similarly, when they leave, it is scanned again.  This allows us to be much more efficient.  The data is stored on a USB flash drive.  We grab the stick and go.  Pretty cool.  Should a dog or other animal try to gain access to the Center without a tag,  a humongous siren goes off.  You know the type, like in stores when you walk out without getting something scanned.  Same thing only about 20 times louder.

Kinnick arrived for a half day.  We will shorten his daily workout and condense it into a half day.  We won't sacrifice his pool laps or dock diving training though.  Probably nap time, treat breaks and back yard scavenger hunts will be cut.  I will tell him of the new routine as soon as he wakes up.  Barney & Max joined us yesterday at the last minute.  They had a vet visit where they got shots, blood sample and mannie & peddie's.  They had a very good day at the fitness center.  We put them through their paces.  They were tired puppies last evening.  They feel asleep on my lap until daughter Debby, the younger elder, got home from her meeting.  Barney enjoyed the solar tanning booth.  That seems to be his favorite.  Max on the other hand prefers the sparring matches with the stuffed monkey.  Those two really get to going.  Max usually wins but not always.

Have to give a shout out to Pastor Tim.  Last night at a meeting he gave me kudos for the work I have done toward our use of a/v equipment during our services.  Shoot, I thought it was $10 bucks well spent.  May have to do that again.  My long range plan is to have enough trained volunteers that the preparation and Sunday service can be rotated around so no one is tied up perpetually.  That will happen probably when that really hot place down below freezes over, if you know what I mean.   The way the weather has been this year, that might happen sooner than I think.

I have been sipping my French Roast, typing and watching the morning news.  I just heard that as little as 15 minutes of exercise per day will add 3 years to your life.  They are saying every minute counts.  Really, that is probably nothing really new, I guess but I hadn't heard it quantified like that before.  It was always, you must workout 30 minutes a day minimum.  Anything less than that doesn't count.  With these new findings, I think I will adjust my daily workout schedule to 1 minute and 38 seconds.  I have calculated that over the past few years, I have added something like 35 years to my life.  If I back off now, I should live to be in my seventies which would be fine.  No sense consuming more than my share of our resources, you see.

The coffee is done.  Didn't last nearly long enough so I should let you guys  get to doing something useful with your lives today.  Like that study on exercise, a little drivel each week keeps the shrink away.  My buddy Will Rogers once said, "Never kick a cow chip on a hot day" is definitely something to remember in these dog days of summer. Have a good one.  TA!

BTW - I didn't really know Will, it was Bill that I knew.  Sorry for the confusion.
