Once again today was an opportunity to do battle with the finest the solid waste agency has to offer. Don't tell anyone but we didn't get our trash and recyclables out until 7:10 am today. I was tempted to crawl out pushing the container in front of me. Kind of commando style but I didn't. Actually H across the street suggested this. I think she has used this before with success. I had Kinnick standing guard for me. He alerted me to MS next door with one of his patented deep belly "woofs". She was unfazed, just looked up and gave a little wave. I think Kinnick likes her. Forgoing the crawling technique, I did get into a crouch behind the containers as I pushed them out. I wasn't so lucky with the extra Thanksgiving trash bags. We had 3 extra. If you have an extra bag, they require you purchase a $1.50 sticky band that must be attached to the top of each bag. I think the strict letter of the law states you can have up to 2 extras but I have seen people with more and got away with. My current wife, Sue, has been at her window watching for the big trucks. Two city trucks have gone by so far without stopping. Not sure what each of them was collecting. We also have glass out this time. I hope our glass wasn't bypassed. We though we say the solid waste policeman go by around 7:30 so I don't think we have a problem there. At least they didn't stop and put a "Do NOT pickup" sticker on our stuff.
For all of you who have been trying to call us and have gotten a busy signal, that was by design. I was feeling frisky last night as I continue to recover, more about that in a minute. I decided that our land line phones should stop working. They went down around 9:00 last night. This morning I applied every troubleshooting test I had in my bag. Nothing worked. I broke down and called the phone company. They will be out sometime today. Not only will this get interesting but probably expensive also. I am certain they will not find anything wrong outside. As soon as they come inside, the meter starts to run. Since I have done most of the wiring, I am sure they was not be pleased with it. Oh well, it has worked flawlessly for more than 10 years. Keep your fingers crossed. Our cell phones and of course the Internet and email still work.
Back to my recovery. On Friday I started to get a sore throat but it was only on one side. Figured I was getting cold #1 of the season. Saturday this throat continued to worsen. It was swelling and I had difficulty swallowing. When I did swallow, the pain was intense. I began to self-medicate. I began taking Advil Cold & Sinus, I gargled with warm salt water, I gargled with mouth wash and I used a heating pad. Had a pretty sleepless Saturday night. Sunday there was continued worsening. My voice was affected. I was beginning to loosen stuff up which made me cough which in turn made my head explode in pain. I had trouble breathing. Finally, 9:00 pm, I decided I had to go to the emergency room for relief. I just couldn't wait any longer. Daughter Debby the younger suggest Mercy Hospital. We had always used the other one. It was really a very good experience. Diagnosed with Acute Viral Pharyngitis. Got some steroids for swelling and something for pain. Took a dose there and by the time I got home, I was getting relief already. Took about 2 hours but that included getting the prescriptions filled. Not too bad. Thumbs up to the Mercy staff. Good job. I believe I am improving. I am taking the meds at instructed. Most of my symptoms have gone away or are on their way out. I think I will survived for another day.
Yeah, as I am writing, a truck came by, stopped and emptied something. I asked my spotter what they got and she wasn't paying attention. She said it was a white truck. Doesn't help much. The sage continues. I had best wrap this up so I can be available for the phone people, who will be showing up any minute. Yea right! They will probably show up when it is dark o'clock. I think another pot of French Roast is in order, it is cold outside, we may get our first snow, I'm a recovering sickie, and I'm disgusted with the phone. Those are enough reasons I think. Hey have a great day and be careful it is rough out there. TA!
