Opening Drivel

Today begins my Blogging odyssey.  Many of you shared kind words as I related my challenges in managing a yellow Labrador, Kinnick and 2 black Pugs, Barney (the suave one) and Max (the “Sally” – chicken one).  I have had many requests to start a blog chronicling the various aspects of  my life challenges and exploits.  I hope you will hop onto this blogging experience and share the ride with me.

I should, for the record, provide a little background so my adventures make a little more sense (wishful thinking). Actually, very little makes sense any more being 64 years of age.  I was born and then grew up and aged. Is that enough background?  Okay, here is a little more. Born and raised on a farm in central Iowa. My high school class had 21 students – most were over achievers I have been told. Most have gone on to fruitful and prosperous careers and lives. I was not among that group, however.  I went to State College of Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. It is know as University of Northern Iowa for those more youthful than myself.  I next had the opportunity to experience life in the Air Force and got to tour Vietnam.  There I discovered just how much I disliked rice and scrawny chickens and this stuff called baum e baum (spelling isn’t correct).  I survived – yeah!

I returned to Cedar Rapids, where my wife was, and set up a home. Had two daughters along the way. They grew up surprising well despite the questionable influence I had on them. You see my wife and I were products of the ‘60’s. Yep, right on the front edge of the baby boomers. We reveled in the ‘70’s hippie era.  Never really outgrew it I guess.  I meandered through life working like everyone else until I had had enough.  Okay, enough of this, how shall I say it, DRIVEL!

Now lets get started. Today was an eventful. First, I had to make my coffee. Done! Next, check out farmville, update what was needed. Done! Get ready for the gym. Donned my manly workout clothes. Women hold their breathes when I walk in – trying not to faint I think. Nice cardio workout today, worked a good sweat. Home, shower and ready for my 12:30 appointment. Jenny, daughter #1, closed on her flood home today. She asks me to go along out of kindness I suspect because I don’t have a clue what they are talking about. Meeting lasted 16 minutes, thank you for your patronage. Shoot, I waited in the parking lot for Jenny longer than that.  My last act of kindness today is picking up the grand-pugs, see above. We will entertain them for a while tonight until daughter #2, Debby, can come get them. I really think I should be charging some type of fee for all of this. I haven’t asked them what they want to do tonight so hopefully it will just to watch TV.

That’s enough Drivel for today plus the coffee is all gone!
