“Why …..... I?”
Good Morning Friends, Neighbors, Acquaintances, Earthlings, and others. I'm afraid that the inevitable is hear – Fall. Yes, I think it has fallen. We have had a couple of nights below freezing. Not good. My mood has fallen it seems. Felling kind of blue knowing that winter is right around the corner. I may just curl up and hibernate like a bear until spring. I still haven't had my vacation yet. I can only afford to go as far as Iowa City. So, I apparently will be going to the Iowa/Minnesota game on Saturday. Yeah! I can only hope the tailgating is good because I am afraid the game may not be.You may note the world's shortest poem at the top. If you are of a mind, it can be very profound and thought provoking. I ponder the answer quite often but it has eluded me so far.
Let's see, what do I have on my Drivel list for today. OK, here you go. Check out this picture.
There
are Friends; Then there are TRUE Friends.
The other day I sat in the reception area of my doctor's office waiting for my appointment. I was sitting there trying to figure out if this place had a public WiFi so I could pass the time with my Ipod. A woman rolled an elderly man in a wheelchair into the room. As she went to the receptionist's desk, the man sat there, alone and silent. Just as I was thinking I should make small talk with him, a little boy slipped off his mother's lap and walked over to the wheelchair. Placing his hand on the man's, he said, I know how you feel. My Mom makes me ride in the stroller too.' I ran across a couple of quotes the other day that I thought were interesting on various levels. No, you can't ask me about my levels.
In my many years I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame, two is a law firm and three or more is a congress. -- John Adams
If you don't read the newspaper you are uninformed, if you do read the newspaper you are misinformed. -- Mark Twain
Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But then I repeat myself. -- Mark Twain
I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle. -- Winston Churchill
A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul. -- George Bernard Shaw
A liberal is someone who feels a great debt to his fellow man, which he proposes to pay off with your money. -- G. Gordon Liddy
Just Sayin'!
I don't like to talk politics so I won't but I was just wondering if you have made up your mind yet? I have I guess. I know for certain, I am getting really, really tired of the polls, the phone calls, and the TV ads. I feel they are a complete waste of money since none of what is being said has any truth to it. I have noticed the news channels are busting at the gut waiting to call a winner. They are hinting at the winner, some more covertly than others. It seems they have decided who the winner is already. Another “Give Me A Break” moment. Okay enough is enough!
At Grandpaw Bailey's Doggie Fitness Center and Spa, we have been batting around a follow up idea to our parking lot event. One idea that has some traction is holding some sort of race/walk/agility/diving event. The idea is to invite teams from different Doggie Spas from around the Midwest in for a weekend of friendly competition and camaraderie. I put down an idea of a doggie sit-in at the Library next door. I don't want to fan those flames right now. More on that later. Beginning Thursday, the pugs will be coming in for a 4 day stay over. It seems their mom is going on an outing with friends to the Cran Fest in Wisconsin. Supposedly you have not done anything until you have taken in the Cran Fest in Warren, Wisconsin. If you like to shop for the unique, hand-made products and good eats, that is the place to be as I have been told. I'm certain the pugs will have a good time. The only question will be the sleeping arrangements. They are not quite as accommodating as Kinnick. It will still be good though.
We have a late Silver Sneakers class today. On Trashy Tuesday the class begins at 10:45. That is why I can get the blog out on Tuesday. I, personally, don't go to Silver Sneakers very often but the current wife does. I have “outgrown” it. At least that is what I tell myself. I did not attend the bicycle spinning class last Thursday. I really felt various body parts needed a few more days to regain their feeling and to cure the rash. I think this Thursday Kay may see me in cycling again.
I had the fabulous opportunity to meet and visit with a member of the Solid Waste Commission last week. We had a great talk and I cautioned him against reading my blog. I don't imagine he would anyway. I did compliment him on the wonderful experience I have had taking goods to the Landfill #2. If is a nice drive especially in the Spring and Fall, the workers are courteous and the off loading area is concrete and well maintained. Never have had a flat tire from there. I wanted to bank some brownie points for the future, just in case.
I was at my local grocery store yesterday. Monday is not a bad day to go actually. They get restocked on Tuesday and the new fliers come out on Tuesday also, so Monday is an easy shopping day. Sue, my current wife, and I stopped by for three things – milk, orange juice, and bananas. Seventy dollars later we completed our shopping. Isn't that always the way it goes. Anyway, I grabbed a cart and began through the veggies. I noticed out of the corner of my eye, two dudes in suits and ties and looking important. It seemed many of the store leadership made a point to greet them. I deliberately slowed my shopping pace to follow them around the store. They visited the deli and the meat department and strolled amongst several aisles. To me this seemed like a golden opportunity to offhandedly make a comment about all of the non-English labeling on their products. I made certain that I said it just loud enough for them to hear my mini rant. Actually, I did get a little agitated when shopping for saltine crackers. I had to turn the box several times to find the English text. That caused me to wonder again why English can not be the “Official Language” of the United States. I also noted that in this store there is an Asian section and a Spanish section. I don't recall seeing an Irish section, a German Section and etc though. I also have not noticed any language on the products other than English and Spanish. Now what's up with that? Spanish is getting so prevalent that I almost wonder if English is now the second language. Just Wonderin'.
It appears that the clock on the wall is telling me it is time to wrap this thing up. Oh my God. I just heard Carol Burnett give her tribal yell on TV. That will cross your eyes for sure. And who can forget Mrs. Wiggans. My last sip of my favorite French Roast is ice cold. Yuk! That is a sure sign the Drivel Tuesday has come to an end. Give a shout out to my friend who is retiring. Another shout out to Fluffy for a successful Navy reunion. If there can be such a thing. Lastly, let's give a BIG shout out for Barbara WaWa on her 83rd birthday. She's like the Energizer Bunny – She just keeps going. Hope all is well with you and yours. Until we meet again, TA!
