What are your plans for this holiday Saturday? We haven't quite firmed our plans yet. It is a little chilly outside so we will pass on the parade. I'm thinking a nice meal at one of our favorite restaurants this evening may be in order. May rent a movie also. What's that, you don't know what today's holiday is? Well, for those of you who are unaware, today, April 2 is Ponce De Leon day. In 1531 he landed in what is now Florida. I think he was looking for a fountain or something. Give a big "Atta Boy, Ponce".
My current wife had a brush with reality the other day. As we get older, these brushes are more infrequent. Her custom is to troddle out to the mailbox and pick up the mail. Often times she troddles several times. I haven't quite figured out why except it might be a reflex action. When she wonders if the mail has gone, she goes out to check. Anyway, I digress, she has been receiving an unusual amount of mail these days. It appears every insurance company in the western hemisphere has discovered she is turning 65 in June. They recognize there may be a Medicare supplement policy to be had. Anyway, in she comes, mail in hand, beaming like a little kid. She enthusiastically hands me mail addressed to me. She pauses while I look through the envelopes, then bursts out that I have finally gotten my invitation from the Scooter Store for a motorized wheelchair device. We have this little joke between us about getting one at "little or no cost to us" since I have Medicare. I look at the envelope and low and behold, it was addressed to HER!!!!! She was depressed most of the day. Check out the TV commercials sometime. They are really great devices if you have mobility problems but the commercials are a little cheesy.
I will be spending the morning of Ponce De Leon day helping Jenny, the elder, trim her pear tree. I just got off the phone and have added this to my day of celebration. This is one of our annual spring time bonding opportunities it seems. A pear tree produces these shoots that go straight up in the air and must be removed in the spring to allow the tree to bear fruit or something silly like that. These shoots of course are usually on the highest branches. I am the certified extension ladder holder, placer, and mover. The gym workouts help with this chore. Not certified but becoming more proficient at spotting and directing the cutter to shoots. I am working on this skill. She has a showing on Sunday for her home. It is on the market now. If you have been looking to relocate to Cedar Rapids, here is a great opportunity.
I have mentioned that my tax refund is being used in many different ways. I have decided the majority of the $78,36 will be used to replace our windows. I am going with Window World replacement windows. Ever heard of them? They are the largest in the nation and "simply the best for less" according to their commercials. I am super excited. It will be sooooo nice to not have wind blowing through the house. These are the low e, f, g, h or something. Supposed to be very good at keeping the hot/cold outside.
My new laptop is really great. I realized this morning that it has been a long time (seemingly) since I have been able to sit down early in the morning with a cup of French Roast and compose an issue of the Drivel. There is something unique about Drivel when it is written early in the morning. I think it is because the Drivel is even less relevant and more twisted than one would reasonably expect. Time to let you get back to something useful, the French Roast has been totally consumed and I must get clothed for the day - after all we have pear tree trimming and Ponce De Leon celebrations today. Have a great weekend all. TA!
