Monday – What’s Next?

The weekend has finally ended.  Thank God.  Not sure I could have withstood another day.  Awoke Saturday eager and thankful to be alive.   Started the day by running errands.  Kinnick went along with me.  He really likes car rides.  Shoot, he even likes to ride when I move the van into the garage.  A problem cropped up with his riding shotgun – yellow Lab dog hair.  Kinnick and I developed a solution to the problem of pet hair deposits.  He had always rode shotgun.  That created a conflict with the current wife who rides shotgun also.  She has a penchant of wearing black & gold clothing (Iowa Hawkeye colors).  That doesn’t work well with yellow lab hair.  We have about a dozen of those sticky lint rollers in the car.  She would always have to de-hair the shotgun seat before sitting down.  Kinnick decided it would be best to ride in the back seat so I have rigged up a cover for the rear seats.  He loves it back there.  No hassles, no yelling and he can roam from side to side.  The only thing is he won’t lay down in the customary way.  He has ample room to lay down and nap as we take our rides.  Does Kinnick do this?  No!  He aligns his rear end on the seats and his front legs on the floor with his nose stuck between the front seats.  What a goof ball.

Errand running was really the only highlight of the weekend.  Post Office – check; check Jenny’s house – check; True Value – check; gas station – check and so forth.  Kinnick and I watched the Iowa Hawkeyes self-destruct over at Northwestern ending any hopes for a Big Ten title.  From that downer we move to our “God’s Gang” church group meeting Saturday night.  We had a speaker who was very interesting.  He has developed a company that helps us transition our elders from home alone to independent or assisted living homes.  Neat idea.  I was, however, disappointed because I was hoping he would assist families in identifying options and helping us through these decisions.  It was not to be.

It has become more apparent to me as I bump up against things like Medicare or transitions from home to apartments or flood recovery that we are sorely lacking knowledgeable people who can advise and assist families in these situations.  People who can guide us through all of the choices, options and alternatives out there.  Oh well!

Kinnick was running out of food on Sunday so I decided to go to Pet Smart to get a bag.  Kinnick wanted to go.  As I got his collar and leash on, we spotted a squirrel outside eating corn.  Kinnick doesn’t like squirrels at all.  Out he goes lickety-split intent on squirrel for lunch.  He makes a sharp 90 degree turn, of course, the squirrel gets away.  Not really sure what would happen if he actually caught one.  Well, he comes inside with his back leg hoisted in the air, refusing to walk on it.  He lays down and I message it and inspect it for the cause of the problem.  OMG – the side of the pad is split open – what the “h” do I do now.  It wasn’t bleeding but was really tender and raw.  I slap some Neosporin on it and off we go.  Kinnick decides to stay in the van while I do the business.  He was cute.   I told him to stay and I don’t think he moved an inch.  Good dog!

Well we watched some pretty boring football games while watching my fantasy football team hold perilously onto a lead.  We got Papa Murphy’s pizza for supper and had Debby, the younger and the boys, over.  Supper was a disaster. No idea what caused this but the paper tray under the pizza was charred and fused to the bottom of the pizza.  The oven was set to the correct temp and time.  I knew something wasn’t right when I opened the door and was engulfed in smelly smoke.  We salvaged as much as we could but it sure dampened the meal.  I was reminded continually of the fiasco by the lingering smell.  Ok, so we coped.  As I folded my tent for the night, I decided that Monday would be a new week, one with hope and optimism. Slept like a rock, Kinnick slept with his Grandma.

That is all of the drivel for today.  As I sip on the French Roast, I trust your week will be as drivel-free as I wish mine would be.  TA!
