Saturday Over Coffee

Can you believe it, Saturday already. Time flies when a guy is busy. I  may have to retire from retirement. I assumed that retirement would be great since there is no schedule, no routine tasks, no boss to answer to but I was wrong.

Every morning, Monday through Friday, I head to the gym. That is only after I have my coffee of course. You know, that special “French roast” brew that pops the eyes open. Clad in my most studly workout togs, off I go with my current wife, Sue (she doesn’t wear the studly clothing like I do fortunately).

Our fitness club has a special class for those of us that are a “little” older. Bless their hearts for thinking of us. It is called Silver Sneakers. Two days are devoted to cardio, two days to flexibility and strength and one day to yoga. I divide my time between the class and independent workouts. Two or three times a week, I attend class. I like to interact with other classmates and try to disrupt the class with a bit of off-beat humor. It also allows me to measure my progress with my peers. I’m not bragging when I say that I am great at marching in place. Great form. I’m pretty good with the band, ball and weights. When they through in multiple moves at the same time, I begin to falter. V-steps and arm curls just don’t work for me. You know I have never had a need for that move in the real world – useless.

My independent workout permits my testosterone really flourish. I have perfected the swagger needed to build the Charles Atlas image. You have to build a rep to get any respect out there. No rep and those sweaty bodies look down their muscle bound noses at you. That will never happen to me. I can swagger with my porky physique with the best of them. Studying other young bodies workout practices has led me to the conclusion that these young men will “pretend” to exercise using monster weights but when no one is looking they actually exercise with the wimpy ones. Pretty neat when I finally realized this. For the first couple of months, I nearly killed myself with the monster weights. Couldn’t figure it out. Do I need my knife sharpened?

We met the folks at the Red Cross the other day. We are thinking of volunteering. Don’t know about that though, I couldn’t get the little rubber plug in the babies mouth to pop-out doing CPR.

The boys and I, you know Barney and Max, rebuilt one of our laptop computers. Dell sent a “professional” out to replace some hardware. With a stroke of brilliance I decided to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 then reload all of the software and data. As this was Sue’s computer, I allowed her to use mine. I was nervous about that but it turned out okay. The reload and upgrade was a piece of cake. After 3 days, marathon tech support calls, redoing steps, yelling, and helping Max at the keyboard, he is the techie of the two pugs, we got it done. Did I mention how brilliant that idea was? Sue is back on her computer. I hear her occasionally utter mild oaths but I think she will be okay.

Well, the coffee is all gone so I had best get ready for the day. Have a great weekend!
